Partner Institutions

The ONI is a member of a growing community of researchers, policy specialists and advocates working in the field of communications rights. The relationship is reciprocal. At the national level we work with networks of local advocates and researchers who contribute to the all important analysis of filtering and surveillance policies for specific case study countries. At the same time, the ONI builds on the capacity of our local partner institutions through a structured knowledge-sharing network, specialized training opportunities, and individual mentorship in the skills necessary for conducting and communicating policy-focused research.

Our growing list of cooperating and partner institutions includes:

  1. Eurasian i-Policy Network
  2. Privaterra
  3. Govcom.org
  4. The academic partners of the Global Network Initiative, including the University of California-Berkeley and the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland), in the context of working toward a global set of principles for private actors operating in states that practice censorship and surveillance.

ONI also coordinates its work with existing advocacy projects in the field of communications rights. We benefit from the valuable contributions and insights of such notable actors as:

  1. Association for Progressive Communications (APC)
  2. Reporters Without Borders (RSF)
  3. Privacy International
  4. Center for Democracy and Technology
  5. The Global Internet Liberty Campaign
  6. Human Rights In China (HRIC)
  7. Human Rights Watch
  8. Amnesty International
  9. International Freedom of Expression eXchange (IFEX)
